Professor Schmid and Dr. Jiabei Yang recently had a paper published using N-of-1 trials investigating the effect of two diets for treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease. in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Cincinnati. The studies found that both diets worked for some, but not all patients.
The study used innovative Bayesian methods to estimate both individual and group treatment effects. The figure shows the posterior probabilities of benefit, harm or equivalence for each patient in the study grouped according to their study completion status.
The paper was published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
