Associate Professor Lorin Crawford received the Emerging Leader Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS), given to early-career researchers who show evidence and potential for leadership in our profession. This is a highly selective and prestigious award given to a maximum of 8 junior researchers per year. The citation for Lorin’s award gives a sense of his contributions and potential: For path-breaking research that combines theory and methods of mathematics, statistics and computing to generate new knowledge and insight about the genetic basis of disease; for exceptional contributions to mentoring students from multiple scientific disciplines; and for demonstrating leadership and vision through promotion and development of transdisciplinary research in data science.
