We had an amazing turnout at the 2025 Biostatistics Commencement Reception celebration, where Interim Chair of Biostatistics (while Joseph Hogan is on sabbatical), Carl Kawaja and Wendy Holcombe Professor of Public Health, Professor of Biostatistics and Data Science, Rebecca Hubbard gave her remarks and recognized the extraordinary achievements of our students. The 2025 award winners were revealed for Doctorates, Master's and Undergraduate Statistics Concentrators.

Award Winners

Academic Excellence in Public Health was awarded to Neil Mehta ’25 A.B., Public Health and Statistics. This award recognizes graduating public health students who have demonstrated exemplary academic performance in their coursework in the concentration.Academic Excellence Award to Neil Mehta '25 
Diversity & Inclusion Catalyst Award was awarded to Diahmin Hawkins, Sc.M'25, Sc.M., Biostatistics and Biostatistics NextGen Scholar. This award recognizes exceptional graduating students in the School of Public Health who are making a notable impact to advance diversity, inclusion and equity. This includes advocacy within the school and Brown University as well as in the broader community. & Inclusion Catalyst Award to Diahmin Hawkins, ScM'25 
The Undergraduate Statistics Concentration Capstone Poster Award of Excellence was awarded to Benjamin Moshes for his poster entitled “Impact of the Washington Bridge Closure on Bus Ridership”
Faculty Advisor: Alice Paul, Ph.D.
PhD Presentation Award of Excellence was awarded to Robert Zielinski for his thesis entitled, “A Principal Manifold based Framework for Comparison of Hierarchical Manifold Estimates."
Faculty Advisor: Zhijin Wu, Ph.
Master’s of Science Thesis Award of Excellence was awarded to Yingjie Huang for his thesis entitled, “Sparse Bayesian Factor Model with Mass-Nonlocal Factor Scores” and Maia Lindner-Liaw for her thesis entitled, “Increasing Power in a Meals on Wheels Pragmatic Pilot Trial: A Record Linkage, Historical Data, and Bayesian Imputation Approach”

Each awardee has shown significant dedication to their education, the school and local community. 
They have proven themselves to be true leaders amongst their peers in public health.
