Full Interview:

How has your time at Brown been?
My time at Brown has been awesome! I've had the opportunity to build supportive connections with both professors and students in the biostatistics department. I've also enjoyed interacting with the broader Brown community and attending Latinx events, like seeing the Mariachi band perform and taking a Bachata class.

How did you get into Statistics?
I majored in Mathematics as an undergrad and enrolled in an introductory class in biostatistics, which first introduced me to the field. I also participated in the UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program, where I studied the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among Mexican Americans. This emphasized to me the importance of statistics in the health field and motivated me to continue pursuing statistics.

What are you looking forward to here at Brown?
I will be graduating this coming May!! I'm very excited to present my thesis during JCCD. As for my next steps, I am waiting to hear back from PhD programs, and I am currently applying for jobs. Hopefully all good news *fingers crossed*

How has Statistics education helped you?
Statistics education has helped me to understand how different methods are applied to various types of data. It has made me more prepared to approach challenges from different perspectives and break them down into manageable steps.

Favorite Statistics class?
Practical Data Analysis, we were able to work on cool projects!

Favorite memory of your time at Brown?
I enjoyed going to the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular during my first year here.
