Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I’m delighted to announce that Alice Paul, Assistant Professor of Biostatistics, has been appointed Associate Director of the Master's Program in Biostatistics, effective July 1, 2023.
In this role, Alice will work closely with master’s program director Stavroula Chrysanthopoulou, Assistant Professor Biostatistics, and with me, Joseph Hogan, Carole and Lawrence Sirovich Professor of Public Health, Professor of Biostatistics, and Chair of Biostatistics. Alice’s primary area of responsibility will be admissions and recruitment.
The master’s program in biostatistics provides training and research opportunities in modern biostatistical theory, methods and applications, with emphasis on addressing high-impact questions in public health, biology and medicine. The program, launched in 2007, currently enrolls 40 full-time students and has awarded 205 masters degrees. Our program prepares students for both professional careers and doctoral programs in biostatistics, data science, and related fields. Our graduates go on to assume professional and leadership roles in the industry, government, and academia.
Alice Paul joined the School of Public Health in Fall 2020 as Assistant Professor of Biostatistics. She completed her Ph.D. in the Department of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University and was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Data Science Initiative at Brown. Alice’s research focuses on the design and analysis of optimization algorithms underlying data science applications. In 2022 Alice was recognized with the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Classroom Teaching; she currently teaches three of the required courses in the Master’s Program: Statistical Programming in R, Statistical Learning and Big Data, and Practical Data Analysis.
Please join me in congratulating Alice as she takes on this important new role.
Sincerely,
Joseph Hogan, Sc.D.
