Master's entered 2022
A second year Sc.M student in Biostatistics. For his thesis project he is working with Dr. Zhijin Wu on analyzing mRNA data. Han came from Wuhan, China and did his undergrad at the University of California in Santa Barbara, where he studied biological sciences and statistics and graduated with the Rama Thogarati Award. Han did data analysis on drosophila larvae (fruit flies) to see how olfactory signals affect their navigational decisions.
This experience and my unhappy biochemistry classes led me to focusing on data analysis rather than wet lab.
How has your time at Brown been?
Great! I like to interact with my classmates and faculty/staff, and they are all passionate about statistics. Also, Providence is a nice town for living.
How did you get into Statistics?
I started with majoring in biology and minoring in statistics as an undergrad because I thought statistics is useful for analyzing biological data. It turned out that I preferred the data analysis part over the wet lab.
What are you looking forward to here at Brown?
I am the class of 2024. I am looking forward to finishing my current projects and thesis by graduation - it has been a great time to work with my advisor and mentor!
How has Statistics education helped you?
It has helped me to realize that statistics is a tool that depends on how people use it. We need to understand the data collection and examine how data looks like instead of fitting a model directly.
Favorite Statistics class?
The next one I am going to take!
Favorite memory of your time at Brown?
Eating out with my friends and walking around during fall foliage.
