Master’s in Biostatastics student and NextGen Scholar, Diahmin Hawkins was selected to receive funding for graduate study under the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program! This five year fellowship recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in STEM disciplines. During the fellowship, Hawkins will conduct research on substance abuse among historically marginalized populations that are often hard to reach and underrepresented in clinical research.
Diahmin Hawkins, came to Brown from Columbia University’s Department of Statistics Bridge-to-PhD Program in STEM. Previously, she was a Leadership Scholar for the Department of Homeland of Security where she conducted research on the topic of graph theory in relation to domestic and foreign affairs. In addition, Hawkins interned at Tennessee State Capitol, Air Force Research Laboratory, and Brookhaven National Laboratory. Hawkins received her B.S in Mathematical Sciences where she was a Student Opportunity for Advancement in Research Skills participant at Tennessee State University, which funds undergraduate research for underrepresented populations in STEM. We are very excited to have Diahmin as a part of our masters program and looking forward to the exciting work that will be conducted as part of the NSF fellowship.
