The Department of Biostatistics was an active participant in the StatFest conference where over 150 students and professionals gathered together at SAS Headquarters in Cary, North Carolina, for a one-day conference aimed at encouraging students from historically underrepresented groups to consider careers and graduate studies in statistics, biostatistics, and data science. The StatFest program included presentations from established professionals in academia, government and industry, and current graduate students that will help attendees understand the opportunities and routes for success in the field. Anarina Murillo, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Biostatistics, served on the planning committee for the conference and along with Matt Wallace, Assistant Director of Student Recruiting and Marketing, promoted Brown’s graduate programs at the StatFest Expo.
NextGen Scholar and master student Victoria Grase was a panelist on the Graduate Student Experience Panel. Devon Newman public health student and teaching assistant in biostatistics presented research guided by Shira Dunsiger, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Behavioral and Social Sciences.
