We are pleased to announce the promotion of Tao Liu, Ph.D., to the position of Professor of Biostatistics on the Research Scholar Track, effective July 1, 2024. Professor Liu joined the Department of Biostatistics in 2006 after receiving his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, he is the Director of the Research Methods Core (formerly Data and Statistics Core) of the Brown Alcohol Research Center on HIV; and the inaugural academic director of Brown’s Online Biostatistics Master’s Program, launched in 2024. He is also a faculty member of the Brown Center for Statistical Science (CSS), the Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), the Center for Advanced Clinical Translational Research (Advance-CTR), and the Brown Data Science Initiative (DSI).
Liu is a researcher specializing in developing novel statistical methods in clinical research, focusing on addressing incomplete data issues, clinical decision-making, and causal inference. His innovative work has significantly impacted the understanding and treatment of complex medical conditions in infectious diseases (HIV, Ebola virus, etc.), cardiovascular diseases, and cancer research.
In his free time, Professor Liu enjoys spending time with his children and taking them to various sports and art activities. He also loves traveling with his family to different parts of the world, meeting people, and learning about their history and culture.
