Full Interview:
What are you most excited about coming to Brown?
What I’m most excited about coming to Brown is the chance to build a new community and connect with people who share my interests and goals. I think being in a new environment naturally pushes you to grow. It challenges you to adapt, learn, and see things from different perspectives. I’m also really looking forward to diving deeper into Biostatistics and learning more as I prepare for the next chapter of my life.
How did you get into Statistics?
I’ve always had a strong love for math, even from a young age. When I started college, I was originally a Biology major. One day, I met with Dr. Simpson, a professor who saw my enthusiasm for quantitative work and encouraged me to explore the Mathematics major, specifically the statistics track. After taking a few courses, I discovered how much I enjoyed applying mathematical concepts to real-world data and drawing meaningful insights through analysis. That experience ultimately sparked my passion for statistics.
How has a Statistics education helped you?
Having an education in Statistics has helped me see the world through a more analytical lens. It allows me to better interpret information I encounter in everyday life. Academically, it has strengthened my ability to think critically about data, recognize patterns, and communicate the importance of results to others. Statistics has taught me how to connect numbers to real-world contexts and make informed, thoughtful conclusions.
Favorite Statistics class?
My favorite course so far is Generalized Linear Models. I really enjoy working with datasets, running tests, analyzing the results, and interpreting the outcomes. I enjoy courses that implement real-world applications, so being able to apply my skills to data and draw meaningful conclusions makes the class enjoyable for me.
